Smart ways to use your smartphone
By epearson
Most people with phones today don't tap into the power of these devices. I read that 42 percent of people in the US uses a smartphone. I am sure that number is higher in Korea and Japan. If you are reading this chances are you have one. So here are a few ideas that may help.
Run your virtual office
If you work for a big company or yourself, syncing your phone to your office and personal mail can be very useful. Staying connected at this level can keep you in the loop instead of being the person that someone will have to bring up to speed.
I prefer to send an email instead of keeping the traditional to do list. If I need to schedule a meeting with a person to discuss an important topic, I send an email to setup an appointment. No need to make life complicated with maintaining lists.
Retrieve facts
How many people have a data plan on their phone, but don't browse the web on their phone? It's okay if you raised your hand. This is very easy to fix. The next time you have a question or wonder what something is about, look it up.
Google and other search engines do a great job with keyword search. Normally an answer to a question is a few clicks away. It's always better to be informed.
One word: Tether
What the heck is that? I had many people ask me that. Tethering allows you to use you smartphone to connect your laptop or computer to the internet when a direct connection or WIFI hotspot is not available.
If you are in the desert and needed to use a computer. How would you do it? Chances are that you are close to a cell tower (at least in the United States). Let's just say you are close to a cell tower. If you have enough power, with tethering you could update your Word document in the desert. This is a very powerful use of a smartphone that not a lot of people know about. Please check out the link to some of my other work on tethering in the references and links section if you want to know more.
