Four things I liked about Belize

Introduction

I went to Belize a couple of years ago.  Here are a few things I like about this wonderful country.

San Pedro

Is a town on the southern part of Ambregris caye. It takes about an hour to get by boat from Belize City. The public beach was very nice. The were tons of activities, bars, and restaurants along the beach.  It truly was beautiful and felt like paradise there.

Relaxed driving

When I caught a cab to the residential district, I got in the car and put on my seat belt.  the driver looked at me and laughed.  I asked what was wrong.  He said you don't need that.  As we started driving I saw why.  Everybody was driving 30 mph.

The Caribbean Sea

In San Pedro the water was green.  You could see the sea floor at depths of at least ten feet.  In Belize City the water was brown.  It reminded me of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.  I wasn't able to snorkel on my trip, but did take a swim or two in the sea.

Altun Ha

This site was amazing.  There was evidence that supported this was a marketplace and not a traditional temple of sacrifice.  I believe this was very unique in Belize.  I am pretty sure my guide stated there was evidence of sacrifice in all other temple except this one.  The Mayans were truly a great civilization.

What I missed

I didn't get everything in when I ventured to Belize. For my next trip I am going to check out the following things:

  • The Blue Hole
  • Snorkeling in San Pedro
  • Driving a golf cart in San Pedro
  • More Mayan Ruins
  • Belmopan (The capital)

Here is another perspective of the same trip.
